I worked as a full time journalist for almost 10 years. I have also been a freelance media writer. In the years I have done both roles, I have made my share of mistakes. I will like to share five mistakes that you could be making

  1. You don’t give adequate details to your readers

You don’t give the What, Who, Where, Why and How. Now I know at times, when you are writing an article, you can not get all the information you need. You may have research online or called an organization or business and could not reach anyone to get more information for your article. If you can’t readily get all the information, you should let the reader know that you have made an attempt to call a person and that they could not be reached for comment for your article.

2. You are not familiar with the publication you are writing for

You must be sure that you know the publication’s audience and what the readers are looking for.

3. You don’t double check your sources

4. You don’t proofread what you wrote

5. You don’t take head to the editor’s feedback
